Impact & measurement

We are a new program, so we publish what we will measure before we publish results. When we report, we'll show sample sizes and use the same definitions as the state.

The national and Indiana picture

Different studies measure different things (rearrest vs. return to prison), so each figure is labeled. None of these is a Broken Champions result.

What we track

Outputs: what we do

  • People matched to a full 12-member Dream Team
  • Calls, visits, and letters logged per person
  • Releases met at the gate
  • Freedom and Survival Bags provided; nights of lodging
  • Referrals made and completed
  • Waypointers trained, and retained at 12 months

What we track

Outcomes: what changes

  • % with valid state ID and Social Security card within 30 days of release
  • % in safe housing at 30, 90, and 365 days
  • % with income or employment at 90 days
  • % with established credit history at release (Dream Team participants)
  • Returns to IDOC custody at 1 and 3 years, using IDOC's definition so results can be compared with the statewide rate

How we report

How we report: Results from small groups are shown with their sample size (“n =”) and are not a measure of program effect. We will not publish a program recidivism rate until we have a full measured cohort. We will seek an independent evaluation partner as we grow.

Our first annual report will be published here after our first full program year. Funders can request current program data at any time.
