From Broken… to Becoming

About Broken Champions

We are an Indiana nonprofit that walks with people from incarceration to stability, before release, at the gate, and through the first year home.

From Broken… to Becoming

Walk with people from the inside out.

Mission

Broken Champions surrounds people who are incarcerated with trained volunteer Dream Teams, meets them at the gate on release day, stabilizes the first 72 hours, and connects them to the help they need to rebuild a stable life.

An Indiana where no one walks out alone.

Vision

Every person leaving prison is known by name, has people who show up, and starts with a bed, a phone, an ID plan, and a path forward, not a bus ticket and a crisis.

How we work

Presence

We Show Up

Our name for this is episkeptomai, the Greek word in Matthew 25:36 (“I was in prison and you came to visit me”). It means to look in on someone with care, and to keep coming back.

Dignity

People, Not Projects

We use person-first language, protect privacy, never use anyone as a testimony prop, and route help through a system so no one has to beg one person for it.

Structure

Rhythm and Boundaries

Clear roles, a weekly rhythm, a written covenant, two-person safety rules, and logged follow-through. Consistency is how trust is built.

Generosity

G.I.T.: Give Quietly

Generosity, Integrity, Transparency. We give without needing credit, and we expect that integrity and openness will earn trust over time.

Integrity

Say What Is True

We describe what we do today separately from what we plan to build. We don't claim outcomes we haven't measured.

Why we started

Our story

Incorporated 2026

Broken Champions was incorporated in Indiana in early 2026 and recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) public charity, effective February 2, 2026. We exist because too many people leave prison with a mesh bag of belongings and no one waiting. The first night decides a lot, and too often no one is there for it.

So We Built the Opposite

Before release, a team of twelve who already know the person. At the gate, someone with clothes, a phone, and a meal. For the first 72 hours, safe lodging and a plan. Then follow-up at 30, 90, and 365 days, plus a county-by-county directory of the help that already exists in all 92 Indiana counties.

We Are Faith-Based

Our faith is why we do this work. It is never a condition of receiving help.

Faith-based. Open to everyone.

What We Believe

We are a Christian ministry. We believe every person carries God-given worth, that no one is beyond restoration, and that Jesus' words in Matthew 25:36 are a direct call to visit people in prison. That conviction is why our volunteers show up.

How We Serve

Release-day support, lodging, case follow-up, resource connections, and the veterans track are open to everyone, regardless of religion or belief.

Worship, Bible study, and discipleship (including 4 Fields) are voluntary, offered separately, and paid for with private funds.

No one is required to pray, attend, or profess faith to receive help.

A book started this.

The story and the vision are creative projects. Broken Champions is the real, operating ministry. Gifts to Broken Champions fund Broken Champions only.

Meet Me Halfway

A science-fiction book series by Matthew Love, coming soon. In its world, you level up by giving instead of taking. Dream Teams, Waypointers and Pioneers all began as ideas on its pages.

Fullway

A place in that story: a round building where people come home after the gate, with a room that locks, work for their hands, and a road to keys of their own. It is a vision, not a program.
