Follow the Scars album cover — a returning citizen and a Broken Champions mentor walking out through a prison gate with broken chains, a phoenix-eagle with one steel wing and one wing of fire rising behind them beneath a burning cross.

The Anthem of the Waypointers

I'm not the light. I point to it. Written for everyone the world counted out — the ones sitting in the wreckage of their worst day.

The Words

Every Scar Is a Place He's Been

Verse 1

I was rubble, I was ruin,
every name the world could throw.
Buried under all my doing,
nothing left of me to show.

Pre-Chorus

But You reached into the wreckage,
called me out and called me kin —

Chorus

You are the One who walks into the wreckage,
You are the flame that will not die.
From broken to becoming,
You lift the fallen — You teach us to rise.
And we will be Waypointers,
markers of mercy, signs in the dark —
follow the scars, follow the scars.

Verse 2

Now I stand a Waypointer,
a marker in the dark —
I'm not the light, I point to it,
just follow the scars.
Right where I fell, I plant a sign:
this is the way, you're not alone —
what found me in the wreckage
is walking you home.

Bridge

Reforged in the fire,
risen from the rust —
a champion out of the dust.
Even the least of these
will rise and carry the flame —
from broken to becoming,
we will never be the same.

Final Chorus

You are the One who walks into the wreckage,
You are the flame that will not die.
From broken to becoming,
from broken to becoming —
follow the scars, follow the scars.

"Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ."

Galatians 6:2
Whose Song This Is

A Waypointer Already Walked It

This song belongs to them. On a trail, a waypoint is a mark left by someone who went ahead — proof the path is real and that you're still on it.

Broken Champions doesn't send strangers with clipboards. We send people who have been in the wreckage, who came out, and who go back to stand at the exact spot where they fell and say: this is the way, you're not alone.

Dream Teams meet returning citizens at the gate — or before it — because the first seventy-two hours decide the next ten years. Housing, ID, a ride, a phone number that answers. Somebody who carries the weight with you until you can carry it yourself.

Every verse in this song is written from inside that job. The first one is the wreckage. The second one is what you become when you go back and stand in it for somebody else. That turn — now I stand a Waypointer — is the whole mission in one line.

What's Coming

The Song Is the First Thing Out

Broken Champions is built in three movements — the same three the film is named for. Here's where each one stands.

The Way
Now forming

Waypointers train before the gate ever opens.

People who've been through it learn to walk alongside someone who's still in it — service practiced before release, not improvised after. Dream Teams form in crews, and every crew commits to a name, not a caseload. This song is their anthem.

The Truth
In the field · Indiana

Somebody is standing at the door on day one.

The ride, the ID, the phone number that answers. Seventy-two hours decides the next ten years, and nobody should spend them alone in a parking lot with a paper bag.

The Life
Building

A five-year walk, not a five-day program.

Work, housing, ownership, and a future worth staying out for — then the turn that matters most: the person who was carried starts carrying somebody else. That's when a champion comes out of the dust.

In Production
The Way, The Truth, The Life

A short film about the four words nobody wants to hear, and the people who make sure somebody else never has to. Same story as the song, told in pictures — the wreckage, the hand that reaches in, and what gets built afterward. Teaser coming soon.
