Good to know: Security jobs involve a background check, and armed posts have stricter rules. Officers work at client sites such as warehouses, hospitals and offices.

What to bring

• State ID or driver's license
• Social Security card (or other I-9 document)
• 3 copies of your resume
• A list of 3 references with phone numbers
• A pen and this sheet
• The Federal Bonding info below, in case they worry about hiring someone with a record
• Driver's license

What to wear

Business casual, very neat.

Questions they may ask

1. Tell me about yourself.
2. Why do you want to work here?
3. Do you have a criminal record? Tell me about it.
4. Why is there a gap in your work history?
5. When can you start?
6. How would you handle a tense situation?
7. Are you comfortable with a background check?
8. Can you work overnights?

When they ask about your record

Keep it under 30 seconds, be honest, and bring it back to the job. If your record was expunged, you may answer about the expunged part as if it never happened.

Questions to ask them

1. Which posts are open to someone with a record?
2. What training do you provide?
3. Is Indiana security licensing needed for this post?
4. What would make someone great in this job?
5. What are the next steps, and when should I follow up?
